Rockford Park District
The Rockford Park District will be 100 years old on March 27, 2009, and we're planning a year-long celebration for the entire community to enjoy!
To commemorate 100 years of service to our citizens, the new Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens will form the cornerstone and centerpiece of the Centennial Celebration. This $8.1 million project is being built entirely through private donations. We're also planning special events or enhancements to existing programs:

- Commemorative collector's hand painted holiday tree ornament
- Calendar with historic photos and 2009 events featured
- History book by long time former Executive Director, Webbs Norman
- Special flower and landscape plantings and a Centennial tree program
- Fire and Ice sculpture at Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition entrance
- Production of historical highlights at Rockford College's Maddox Theatre March 27
- World's Largest (One Million) Egg Hunt and Children's Resource Expo at Indoor Sports Center on April 11
- Turn Back the Clock golf event at Sinnissippi using hickory clubs, old-type balls, and period clothing
- Grand opening of the new "tornado" thrill ride at Magic Waters
- Music in the Park special 100th anniversary concert
- Special celebrity guest performers at a Levings Talent Showcase and a Domingo en el Parque (Sunday in the Park)
- Fishing derby for kids at Levings Lake in July
- X-Treme skateboard and bike exhibition at Davis Park with pre-qualifying contests at Harlem SkateWorks and Elliot Skate parks in July
- Outdoor ice skating rink located near Carlson Ice Arena
